I was looking to go out touring when visiting Bansko this winter, however since I didn’t know the area I wanted to find someone who could show... read more me around and who had the knowledge and expertise.I contacted Split The Mountain over email and was quickly responded by Niki who told me about Bansko and that I should just meet up with him when I arrived and then we could plan.I met with him and his partner Pavel in Bansko and planned a trip. Also they took care of the airbag cylinder I brought with me and had it refilled and shipped from Sofia and back to Bansko.I went touring with Pavel who was awesome in picking suitable terrain for the conditions and to my level - but also challenged me with some tree skiing.It was a great day and I did not just feel like a client but one of their buddiesI hope to visit Bulgaria and go out touring with them again.

My son and I did the Seven lakes to Rila Monastery hike. The whole experience was excellent, communication ahead of the hike was great and well organised. Our guide, Gergana,... read more was awesome. We communicated via WhatsApp and over the phone in the days before and during the hike was really easy going making it a fun experience. The hike presented some breathtaking views complemented by the knowledge of our guide. It was moderate effort as promised although day two is nearly all down hill and will take a few days for the knees to recover! The Ivan Vazov hut was of course basic but much better than anticipated, four toilets, comfy beds and surprisingly excellent food and drink. Good community spirit but as the only non-Bulgarian speakers there we were glad we had Gergana with us upon arrival. Even had a very interesting history lesson when we got to Rilla monastery! We could of course have done the hike by ourselves but I would really recommend split the mountain … rather than worry about transport, directions (path was well marked but we had good weather, imagine easy to get lost in poor conditions), language barriers at the hut etc, you can just relax and enjoy the hike. And when you consider the cost includes hotel pick up and drop off, accommodation at hut, and food (including packed lunches) it’s good value for money. Would recommend and may be back for a different adventure.
