Learn the fundamental skills of safe backcountry travel, including: how to use an avalanche beacon, rescue techniques, snow stability tests, avalanche forecast analysis and tour planning, how to use Splitboard/touring skis and climbing skins, uphill travel techniques (track setting, kick- and step-turns, pacing), downhill travel techniques (route selection, turning in varying snow conditions). And of course lots of hands-on experience.

Climbing mountains in winter sometimes requires alpine equipment and techniques such as walking with crampons, using a rope to access the face you’re going to ride, using an ice axe to climb and to perform self arrest. A good riding technique is a must.

During this course, we will teach you the basics of winter mountaineering, adapted to the needs of ski and splitboard mountaineering. We will learn how to use crampons and ice axe, basic knots, creating anchors, rappelling into a face using a rope.

During our camp we will use the lifts as well as our touring skis and splitboards to get to the good snow around Brezovica resort and the Prevala area.

Splitboard and Ski touring camp Ivan Vazov hut

This trip will take us to a remote area in Rila mountains where we will enjoy the hospitality of the Ivan Vazov hut, situated at 2300 m asl in the Pazar dere valley. We will have the chance to ride some of the surrounding peaks such as Otovitsa 2696 m, Golyam Kalin 2667 m, Damga (Vazov Peak) 2669 m. During this trip we will help you improve your mountaineering skills as well as your riding technique.

Splitboard and Ski touring camp Tevno hut

During this three day backcountry trip we are going deep into the Pirin Mountains. We will spend 2 nights in the Tevno Lake Refuge and we will ride some of the remote peaks in the are such as Kamenitza 2822 m. During that trip will also help you improve your riding technique and mountaineering skills.
