Mount Musala – Winter alpine climb via Aleko peak

A one day alpine route to the highest peak in the Balkan peninsula – Musala 2925 m. We will do an alpine traverse via Aleko peak and Bezimenen (Nameless) peak, climb Musala, and then get back to Borovets within a day, with the help of the Yastrebets cable car.

Difficulty level: Medium

You need to be in good physical condition. The altitude gain for the day is around 900 m. Basic winter mountaineering experience is a requirement. The route requires walking in crampons and ice axe, using a rope. Get in touch in case you have doubts.

ITINERARY:

  • Day 0:
  • Evening meeting in Borovets and equipment check. Briefing.
    Night in Borovets.
  • Day 1:
  • Meeting at Yastrebets cable car station before opening hours. We will catch the first lift up to Yastrebets hut where our climb will start. After a short hike through Borovets ski area we will get to the main ridge, leading up to Aleko peak, Bezimenen (Nameless) peak and mount Musala. Our most serious technical difficulties will be at climbing Aleko peak. We will go down via the classic route to mount Musala and go back to the cable car which will bring us down to Borovets ski area.
    Hiking time: 7 hrs Vertical gain: +900/-600m.

  • The event is lead by a qualified Alpine mountain guide.
  • Maximum 2 participants per 1 Guide.

  • In case you don’t have any of the equipment we can help you rent it out.
