Navigation and route planning course

The ability to navigate in mountain terrain and good route planning are the keys to finding the best snow in the mountains.

During this course we will get familiar with the basics of mountain navigation, route planning and choosing the right terrain for going uphill and downhill.

Dates: upon request, Pirin mountain

Difficulty level: Intermediate

The course is suitable for Beginner splitboarders and ski tourers. You need to be confident on red runs in the resort. Minimal off-piste experience required.

ITINERARY:

  • Day 0:
  • Arrival and accommodation in Bansko
    Lecture/Discussion – Navigation basics.
    Equipment check
  • Day 1:
  • Practical activities:
    Use of compass, map and GPS
    Choosing ascent and descent lines.
    Feedback from the past day.Evening Lecture – Navigation: how to plan our day.
    Planning for the next day.
  • Day 2:
  • Practical activities:
    Implementation of the planned route
    Participants will have the opportunity to practice what they have learned under the supervision of the guide.

Price includes:

Training (1 guide per 6 participants)*, area map, compass.

Price does not include:

Avalanche equipment, accommodation*, food, transportation, personal equipment, lift ticket, insurance.


Necessary equipment:

  • Avalanche equipment (Transceiver, shovel, probe)*
  • Splitboard or touring skis + poles*
  • Appropriate backpack (around 30L)
  • Appropriate clothing
  • Ski Helmet
  • Insurance

Important information:

  • The course group will be guided by certified mountain guides
  • Maximum 6 participants per 1 guide.
  • Minimum number of participants: 4 Maximum participants: 6.
  • Equipment rentals for the duration of the course: Splitboard and poles – 130 BGN, snowshoes and poles – 40 BGN, avalanche equipment – 60 BGN, touring ski – 100 BGN.
  • We can recommend a family guesthouse in Bansko.
  • The organizers reserve the right to make any changes to the itinerary and location in case of bad weather or snow conditions.
